The ties between England and Australia are woven through thousands of stories, rich with character, place, and legend. Powder Monkey Brewing's journey is one of these tales, blending heritage with a modern twist.

Legend has it that in 1824, just off the site of what is now the Powder Monkey Brewery in Gosport, UK, a young man named William Kerr — known as “Willie the Boatman” — shuffled past the gunpowder lads, or “Powder Monkeys,” and descended into the hull of a ship bound for Botany Bay. Sentenced to indentured servitude in the colony of New South Wales, this Scottish highwayman sailed to the Antipodes with a melancholy sigh, leaving behind his homeland.

Two hundred years later, the story comes full circle. In a venue in Sydney, just north of Botany Bay, this rogue Highlander has symbolically reunited with his Powder Monkey pals, finding a new home down under. Powder Monkey Australia combines the brands of Powder Monkey, Willie the Boatman, and Southern Highlands, celebrating the spirit of tall tales and the camaraderie of yesteryear — all through the craft of beer.
